Casino Gambling

Gambling is the process of betting money or something of money value on an event with unknown outcome aiming at winning additional money and other material stakes. The requirements of gambling include consideration, chance, and prize. Even though casino gambling has been considered a vice or something immoral and limited to few jurisdictions, in the recent past it has been growing rapidly and has been accepted in most communities. The purpose of the current paper is to identify the reasons for casino gambling growth regardless of diverse views on it.

Reasons for the Spread of Casino Gambling

The morality argument is obsolete as it is no longer acceptable to oppose gambling on the grounds of its immorality. As indicated by a general trend of situational ethics in the United States, morals are no longer enforced by the government. Recently, betting was illegal, and selling a drink to someone was a delinquency. However, today the government is peddling sweepstakes coupons and wagers on football games that is correspondingly a form of gaming. At the same time, the church can no longer criticize gambling as churches have started performing bingo games that seized their right to call gambling a sin. Without suitable procedures on differentiating what is right or wrong, everything has become a cost/benefit analysis as people can engage in any activity provided it generates money, and it is not illegal. Gambling produces a lot of revenues especially if it is operated and embraced as a monopoly.

Revenue generation has led to the spread of casinos, as they pay high taxes to the government. For this reason the government has legalized the operation of casinos so that it can obtain higher incomes. Gambling has become dollar ferocious prompting casinos to invent more advanced and exciting games to attract a larger number of players, hence induce more revenues. The more revenues are generated from casinos, the more taxes the government collects.

Casino gambling is spreading in the United States because it attracts tourists from different parts of the world, who come to get personal experience of what happens in these casinos. They contribute to the income not only of these establishments but that of the local entrepreneurs in the sphere of services, namely hotel, shop and restaurants owners. Thus, tourist’s interest encourages development of local infrastructure and supports local economies.

The domino effect of wagering emerges when one nation consents betting that prompts the other adjacent countries to follow suit so as not to lose betting money to their neighboring states. The current wave of legal lotteries began in New Hampshire and spread to other North Eastern states, and later crosswise the nation. As an outcome of the domino effect, riverboat casinos that were initially endorsed in Iowa, later spread to Illinois, followed by Missouri, Indiana, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

The government also stated that casino gambling is acceptable. Hence, people are more enthusiastic to participate in gaming. Almost every state has legalized gambling, and all the players are playing confidently as they are aware that they will not be in any trouble, and believe that the government will protect them.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it should be mentioned that gambling is inevitable. Even though the opponents of this activity claimed that gambling is vice and immoral, and churches termed it as a sin, they also became engaged in Bingo games. Casino gambling has expanded due to its ability to transform itself from being sinful to being well accepted.
